7 June 2023: It has been reported in the local press we now have Uber in Mallorca. The service will start on Thursday 8 June.

According to reports, 40 luxury vehicles have been delivered to the island in what is said to be the first phase of its launch.

Included are larger vehicles which will be expected to take parties of up to six, which is great news for families and groups arriving on the island.

I have seen BMW Uber cars operating as well as mini-vans to accommodate larger passenger groups.

Uber in Mallorca – which areas?

This new Uber service looks like it is limited to the four following areas; Palma, Calvia, Llucmajor and Andratx which will include the holiday resorts of Palmanova, Magaluf, Santa Ponsa, Peguera, Camp de Mar, as well as Cala Pi, Palma city including Can Pastilla and El Arenal.

Up until now, only officially registered taxis have been able to run.

You will find queuing lines of white taxis at the taxi rank at the airport and around the island.

These taxis are usually white although sometimes you will see them in black or other colours but all have blue number plates.

A guide to taking a taxi in Mallorca

And there have been taxi wars over the years from illegal taxis operating to and from the airport.

Last Summer, you may remember I reported the problems many tourists had which you can read about here during peak season getting around Mallorca – queues at taxi ranks and on buses.

In April announced that many restrictions that had been put in place for drivers running a taxi had been relaxed meaning there is now more availability.

So now with Uber getting its foot in the door in Mallorca, let’s see whether we will get the full Uber service or just something more controlled.

But ultimately this service will improve taxi services around the island will be welcome.

However, with a 38€ minimum fare, it remains to be seen if this service will take off.

Also note, you cannot stop an Uber car in the street like you can a Mallorca taxi.

Instead, search on your App store for Uber in Mallorca, download the app, and book your car there.

It is also expected that Uber will be expanded to other areas on the island.
