Find out what to expect from Spring weather in Mallorca (Majorca) and what to pack if you are planning a holiday to the island.

This article will also give you a guide to the temperatures we normally get here in Mallorca, as well as whether it’s warm enough to sunbathe or swim.

When is Spring in Mallorca?

Spring runs in the same months as everywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere, so in March, April and May, however, the weather in Mallorca is very different to what you may expect in Northern European countries in Spring.

Of course, the turning point from Wintertime into Spring is when the clocks go forward at the end of March leading to lighter evenings and warmer days.

Spring weather in Mallorca – what is it like?

Expect plenty of sunshine and longer evenings. But also you will get a few rainy days, and some clouds too.

With temperatures yet to hit the Summer highs, Spring is also the perfect time to visit and go hiking in Mallorca, and sightseeing around the island. It’s also warm enough to go to a sheltered beach and catch some rays.

The sea water is very cold at this time of year after cooling down over the winter months.

Many residents swim for the first time in mid-May. However, more hardy visitors can be seen taking a very refreshing dip year-round (even when there is snow in the mountains).

Normally you will see more people in the water from March onwards.

Is it always sunny and warm in Spring in Mallorca?

No! It’s not always sunny and warm in Spring in Mallorca.

In 2022, we had the most unusual Spring, with very few sunny days (I remember there only being two), cold weather and almost constant cloud.

You can see a video about the unusual weather we had in Mallorca in Spring in 2022 on Youtube and you can see I’m wearing my winter coat!

On the other hand, in 2020. I do remember being on the beach in March and seeing children swim in the sea. It was like a day that you would normally experience in May.

In both cases, I hadn’t seen weather like this in almost two decades of living on the island. But it does show that you should always expect the unexpected when it comes to predicting weather in Mallorca.

Is it hot in Mallorca in Spring?

In March expect temperatures to average around 18 degrees Celsius but as you have read previously it can be a lot warmer and colder than this.

In April the average temperature is around 19 to 20 degrees Celsius, but again I’ve known temperatures to hit 26 degrees in previous years.

By May we start to get the first hint of Summer on the horizon and this is normally a lovely month with a daytime average of around 22 to 23 degrees Celsius, but again this can be much warmer.

Evening temperatures during Spring can vary widely and can hit as low as 8 degrees Celsius, and rise to around 14 degrees Celsius by mid-May.

Does it rain in Mallorca in Spring?

Yes, but how much is hard to determine. We do get days with a few showers, but if you think Mallorca has on average 300 days of sunshine per year, it’s unlikely you’re going to encounter too much rain in Spring.

What else do I need to know about Spring weather in Mallorca?

It’s rarely talked about but it does get windy in Spring.

I know this because I know many people who work in the yachting industry on the island experience delays in their boats being able to leave the island because of wind at sea.

This means that it can get breezy on the beaches.

You will see, particularly in Alcudia and Can Pastilla that this makes Spring the perfect time to go kitesurfing in Mallorca.

Yes! On a bright sunny day, you can sunbathe in Majorca in March, but it’s better to find a sheltered beach.

So check out this video here taken in Cala Mayor, Mallorca’s best beach in the winter, and you can see that you can sunbathe here year-round on a sunny day.

You can watch a video here all about it.

Is it warm enough to sunbathe in Majorca in April?

Yes! However, you won’t find sunbed beach umbrellas on the beach until 1 May when the beach rentals become available.

So be prepared to take a towel or visit the many beach shops and pick up an inflatable or your own deckchair.

Please recycle this when you leave the island, and leave it either in your accommodation or with a local!

Can I swim in Spring in Mallorca

Yes, you can! The water will be a little fresh, but it perfectly swimmable.

You’ll find sea temperatures to be warmer if you are coming from the UK or northern Europe.

Just bring something warm to wear after taking a dip.

I normally take my first tip around the middle of May, so that will give you a good idea of what it’s like.

What should I pack for Spring weather in Mallorca?

Bring summer clothes, but at the same time, bring some winter clothes too, especially for the evenings which do tend to be cool.
