Okay, so you may well remember during the summer months I made a video about crime here in New Yorker
0:05
Well, unfortunately it's come a little bit close to home and I'm here with Admin Ann from the Facebook group
0:12
who was robbed in Palmer just a few days ago. Now this video is going to talk about her experience
0:18
and also what she had to do to get this crime reported and finally we're going to talk about how you can avoid the same thing happening to you when you're over here on holiday
0:27
So first of all, I'm just going to introduce you to Anne from the Facebook group
0:32
And welcome to the channel. You haven't been on any of my videos before, but I think now's a really important time for you to be here
0:39
So welcome. Now, can you tell me all about your experience of getting robbed in Palmer
0:45
Okay, well, we're just walking through Plet, Hispania, on the way back to the bus station
0:51
And what's on Plathes, Spania, millions of pigeons. And so I just slid
0:57
on pigeon poo, very undignified. But I hit the floor and as I hit the floor
1:03
my handbag was here, tucked under my arm, it dropped on the floor and my purse bounced out
1:11
So I just grabbed my purse, slipped it back in my bag and stood up
1:17
Carried on, went to the crossing, went to the bus stop. All the time my handbag like this clamped under my arm
1:25
But of course I've been slightly distracted by the undignified way I landed on the floor
1:32
So I think that someone had seen what happened and followed me
1:37
And it was there probably at the crossing or at the very busy bus stop
1:42
that someone slipped the hand into my bag and just took out my purse
1:49
which of course, for most women, is full of everything. credit card, identity card, medical card and my 10% discount card from the Chinese shop
2:04
So I was really upset. Luckily, I have this handy little thing, which is a little holder for my bus cards
2:14
So at least I could get on the bus. And I knew I had 50 euros at home, so I was going to be okay
2:20
but I had to go through a real rigmarole to get everything reported
2:25
I just want to really stress this as well that I been living here for 17 years I never been pickpocketed but this is changing times now And obviously with the cost of living crisis you going to get more open to pickpockets in the town centre
2:39
Also, Anne, would you agree with me to say that Plathra Spania, bus station and the train station is extremely busy
2:46
Yes, it's pickpocket paradise there. Lots of people and just general ruffins, may we call them that
2:54
sitting on the benches there. and I think that I was observed because, as I said, I made a spectacle of myself and hit the ground with a thump and two ladies rushed over to assist me
3:05
But I think that was somebody that spied an opportunity and just followed me to the crossing
3:13
Okay, Anne, so let's talk about what you had to do to get this crime reported, because I know this is really daunting for anyone coming here and for something happening to them
3:22
Well, I'm a resident, so the procedure for reporting a crime here is actually quite different to the way you have to report as a tourist
3:32
So I'll go through that. So the most important thing at the time, of course, for everybody is you have to report that your bank card, credit card or whatever, has gone
3:44
You have to have that blocked, so that's what I did. But I had to wait until I got home, actually, to be able to do that, because the other
3:52
The identity document that I first had when I first opened the bank account was the one they needed
3:59
So that was a passport from 2004. So that done, that was that job for the day
4:06
The next job, I had to go and have my medical card replaced, which in Spain, you have to have an appointment for that
4:13
But that's no problem. I'm not in a hurry for my medical card
4:18
And the next thing, but the most important thing for me is that my sponsor
4:22
identity card the TIE had gone that was in my purse as well now to be able to
4:29
report that and have it replaced without going through a whole series is to have to
4:36
make a report to the police so I had to go to the National Police station take a
4:42
ticket wait in line and then go and make a full report to the police which is
4:47
done and the next thing I do is to make an appointment to have
4:52
my TIE card my identity card replaced this is going to take probably until
4:57
after Christmas so I just written that off as the first time in 18 years that I lived here that I been robbed and it could have been a lot worse
5:09
Okay, Anne, so I do believe that the procedure is slightly different. If you are on holiday and you've been pickpocketed, we've had something stolen whether you are on the sunbed on the beach or something stolen from your hotel room
5:20
What happens? Now, I know you've done some digging around about this. So can you let anyone over here on holiday know what they need to do if they do get pickpocketed
5:29
or robbed? Yes, it's a completely different situation and much actually much
5:35
easy for tourists to report than for residents. So as I was sitting in the
5:39
police station I noticed a poster in English with a dedicated telephone
5:44
number for tourists to call if they've been robbed or had a crime committed
5:50
against them. Now you can easily find this on Google and also you'll see the
5:55
number appearing here on this video and also check the link in the description text below this video as well for more information about this too
6:03
Yes and the conversation that you'll have when you make a report will be in English
6:08
so you don't have to have a Spanish speaker there with you. Okay answer can you tell me then
6:13
what the police station gave you? So I went along to the police station because my
6:18
Spanish isn't fluent enough really for administrative things then I took along my
6:25
granddaughter who is fluent Spanish speaker so we sat in front from a very handsome young policeman
6:31
who typed all the details and itemized everything that was missing in my purse
6:36
and he pressed a button and this is what came out. This is called a denunciar
6:43
and this is the crime number which you need for insurance purposes
6:49
and so that you don't get charged for things that have gone missing
6:52
that you may have to pay for to be replaced. So very important
6:57
with the official stamp which is here the Spanish love their bits of paper
7:02
okay so it's also this crime number that you are going to need
7:07
if you are over here on holiday you're going to need to present this to your travel insurance company
7:12
to try and reclaim the money back on your items that have been stolen so make sure that when you do contact
7:19
this number that you can see on the screen that you make sure you get a crime number and you get this police report
7:25
which you can then go on to use to claim back on your own. insurance You can also file your theft online and take a copy of that crime number to the local police station within 72 hours to get a signed police report again check the description text below this video
7:42
any other final bits of advice for anyone coming over here on holiday yes well of course women
7:50
who carry handbags and some men that carry man bags please bear in mind that i made a mistake
7:57
with this one it bounced on the floor and it was open
8:01
So always carry a bag with a zip and actually do as I always do have it clamped under your arm or to the front of your body
8:11
A rucksack in Palmer with your important documents or money is really not safe
8:17
So just be aware of your surroundings and carry a secure bag
8:23
And don't forget too that before you even come on holiday take a copy of all your important documents such as passers
8:31
and credit cards. Keep them online in an email or with a family member
8:36
So if you are a victim of pickpocketing, you can easily report what has been stolen
8:42
Okay, Anne, thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. I mean, it's a shame I've had to introduce you to the channel through this means
8:50
but I think it's really important that everyone knows about, you know, the current situation about crime and Palmer
8:56
And just to show as well that even locals can get robbed too. Yes, definitely
9:01
Definitely. I'm pretty streetwise. I've been here for 18 years and this is the first time I've been robbed or had any crime committed against me and I walk around all the time
9:11
Okay everyone. So on my website and also there's a link in the description text below this video I do have an Amazon shop
9:19
I've created a shopping list of some safety handbags, some backpacks and also some waterproof bum bags and phone cases, that kind of thing that you can take to the beach as well and that you can go out shopping in public
9:31
harmer that will hopefully keep your property and your items just a little bit safer from
9:35
the pickpocket. So please go ahead and check that out. There is more information about
9:41
Crime and Mioka on my website on Mioka under the sun.com. So please go and check out that article
