Find out everything you need to know about the cost of living in Mallorca in 2023 and if the island is still an affordable option to move to. This video is intended as a guide from my experience of living on the island and that of others.
So find out how the cost of living in Mallorca in 2023 compares to where you live and how it compares to the Cost of Living in Mallorca in 2022.
Find out what living expenses have increased the most, and what you can now expect to pay.
But it's not all bad news and some of the costs of living have remained the same.
In this video, I take a look at property rental costs in Mallorca, how much I spend on supermarket shopping and how much it costs to eat out in Mallorca.
I also talk about the costs of getting around Mallorca by public transport and by car and what you can expect to pay.
Finally, I will also let you know how much a single person will need to budget for as well as a family may need arriving on the island.
Of course some people will pay more and some others will pay less. And you can choose whether to pay for services such as gyms, hairdressers or healthcare.
You can also find cheaper services than I have mentioned and it is your responsibility to shop around. This video is intended as just a guide.

So is it still expensive to live here in Mallorca? Well in this video we're going
0:04
to take a look at the cost of living and find out if it's still affordable to
0:08
move here to the island. So we're going to start this video talking about renting here in Mallorca
0:25
Now renting is going to be your biggest expense if you are moving to the island
0:30
However have rental costs gone up in the past 12 months? Well yes they have and quite considerably so
0:38
Now if you are moving to the island and say you are working in the Palma area
0:42
you may well want to move to an area such as just on the west side of Palma
0:47
where I am now in Calamillo in San Augustine or maybe towards Cala Estancia near Palma Airport or Playa de Palma Way, Portichal or Molinar
0:58
Now if you are looking to rent maybe a two-bedroom apartment, you are now going to be looking at paying in the region of €1,000 to €1,200
1:09
Now that is a lot of money and these prices really have gone up
1:13
But as I have said before, demand is outstripping supply. now more and more I am finding younger people who are coming here to Mallorca
1:22
are having to just rent rooms in the apartments rather than actually renting
1:26
an entire apartment themselves and we're finding room rentals starting from around 400 euros a month if you do want to rent a studio I'm not seeing anything
1:36
less than around 600 euros a month and that's in somewhere like Siliot which is
1:41
over in Saqqom away or even down in Costa de la Calma you're going to get a
1:46
very very tiny studio something like 38 square meters for 600 or 650 euros now if you are arriving
1:56
here with a family and you do want to rent a house then you're going to be looking at around
2:03
1600 to 2000 euros or more to rent uh say a three bedroom house but property here is extremely
2:11
expensive. Now this reduction in supply on the island isn't just to do with the amount of people
2:18
wanting to move to Mallorca and you can understand why so many people do want to move here. It is
2:24
simply because so many landlords now are only choosing to rent their properties during the
2:28
summer months because of course they're going to get a lot more money for that summer rental
2:33
by renting it by the week rather than renting it long term. So while it may be a lot easier to find
2:39
a rental over the winter months make sure you check that contract make sure that that apartment
2:44
rental isn't only available until say the first of may because otherwise if you go ahead and rent
2:49
this apartment you're going to find yourself homeless again in may and that apartment search
2:54
has to start all over again right when the season starts and you're going to find that to be
2:59
extremely difficult and even more expensive but that said it is still possible to find
3:06
cheaper apartment rentals here in Mallorca look out towards Inca look out
3:12
towards Manacol where property is just a lot cheaper also check out places in
3:16
the countryside as well you may well get a deal there too now make sure you stick
3:22
around until the end of this video where I will summarize exactly how much you
3:27
will need if you choose to move over here to Mallorca also check out my
3:33
website article all about the cost of living here on in Mallorca on
3:37
mallorcaunderthesun.com I've put more information about prices on the island at the moment for 2023
3:46
okay so we going to head off the beach now we going to go and look at a couple of other essential costs that you will face if you move here to Mallorca Now I have not covered every single thing in this video that I did cover in last year video simply
4:00
because the costs haven't changed that much. Now if you do want to go back and
4:05
see what those things are I shall put a link to that video right at the end of
4:09
this video. I'll put the link in the description text below. Everything has a
4:13
chapter time stamps as well so if you want to find out about other
4:17
cost of living do go and check out that video but for now we're going to go and check out how much
4:22
it costs to get around Mallorca. Okay so the cost of fuel over the past year or so has been
4:33
absolutely yo-yoing like crazy and last summer the prices were sky high. Now last summer the most
4:40
expensive tank of fuel I purchased cost me about 75 euros and the government did put in some cost
4:47
saving measures we did have a 20% discount on that so even with that that 20% discount I'm still
4:53
spending around 70 75 euros for a full tank of fuel. Now I've just gone into fill up my tank
4:59
wasn't quite on empty but you can see it was practically on empty and my bill today cost
5:04
of €54. Okay so in terms of owning a car over here you're going to pay around €80 in car tax
5:12
annually. You also may well need a roadworthy certificate as well depending on the age of your
5:18
car that is going to put you back around €30 more or less every year. Now in terms of actually
5:24
buying a car of course there's a worldwide shortage on cars at the moment. The second-hand market is
5:29
also pretty saturated too so expect buying a car to be that little bit more expensive so
5:35
if you're only going to look at leasing a car while you're here as well I do know that if you
5:40
lease through the CaixaBank the cheapest car that you can lease is around 326 euros that's for a
5:46
Seat Arona and I have no idea if that's a good car or not but just to give you an idea of costs
5:51
if you're not actually looking to buy a car over here. So if you're not keen on getting a car and driving around the island, then as a resident
6:08
in Mallorca for 2023, you're going to be able to enjoy free public transport. Now I'm just outside
6:14
the bus station here, so I'm going to try and get my hands on that free intermodal car which you can
6:19
then go on to use on the red and yellow TIB buses and also the trains. So I'm going to
6:24
head on down now and we're going to see how easy that is to get
6:47
Okay, so to get that free intermodal card, there's a massive queue. I've actually just
6:51
gone through to another office here it's absolutely full of about another 50 people they give out
6:56
numbers every now and again you can join the queue then there's at least an hour hour and a half wait
7:01
you might not get seen today so realistically if you have the card fantastic if you don't you're
7:07
still going to have to pay on the ti b buses and trains but if you don't want to wait for absolutely
7:12
ages flat free intermodal cards then if you are a resident here in palmer you can get a palmer
7:18
citizen card. Now I did that just the other day as well with admin Anne from
7:22
the Facebook group. We had to wait for about 10 minutes, it's very very quick and easy. So at the very least, as a resident here in Palma, I can get free
7:30
public transport on the blue buses around the city. But I just don't have
7:34
time to wait in that intermodal queue for the free TIB buses so for now I going to have to keep on driving around the island Okay so mobile phones Now I just coming up outside the Vosa phone shop and I can see this
7:51
it's actually shut. Maybe they've gone for lunch but I've actually come to have a moan about
7:57
something. Now I've had my mobile phone contract with them for the past, well since I've been here
8:02
actually. I pay around €90. I've got two SIM cards. I've got unlimited 5G
8:09
broadband at home. I have to say the customer service with Vosafone is
8:16
really pretty horrific. I know you can get cheaper if you're on the island. I've
8:20
got friends who are now with the Hits Mobile. I'm just outside the orange shop
8:24
here. Look they're open. They don't close up and go for lunch. I don't know what
8:30
oranges rates are but if you are looking for a good mobile phone contract with broadband at home
8:35
then factor in around 90 euros for that. Okay so I'm going to hook a left here I'm going to show
8:48
you something that represents amazing value if you're living over here in Mallorca
8:55
Now costs have gone up just about everywhere in Mallorca except for the cost of getting
9:00
fit. Now I'm just walking up the side of the swimming pool here in the heart of Palma Old Town
9:06
and it's absolutely fantastic value to be able to stay fit in Mallorca. Now as a Palma resident I
9:12
can get a season pass for the entire year to use whichever swimming pool or gym that I want to use
9:18
in the city for just 136 euros. Now this price hasn't changed from 2022 or 2021 either at least
9:28
may even go back as far as 2020 but it's just really fantastic that you can stay fit pretty
9:35
cheaply here on the island okay so eating out i'm going to show you somewhere a little bit
9:42
different today now this is a pretty much a gluten-free vegetarian vegan restaurants
9:48
they're not easy to come by in the city but look you can still get a menu del dia for 12 euro 70
9:55
now that has gone up from last year menu del dia's you could still get for 10 or 11 euros
10:00
but 12 to 13 is now going to be the going rate and in this case as well look you can get a choice of
10:06
two plates and also a dessert so that is fantastic value now any gluten free or vegetarian viewers I have here
10:15
I'm in Plaza Cortera here and I'm outside the Natura the Natura restaurant
10:20
but if you are looking to eat out over the island well you can expect to pick up main courses as
10:29
well in the evenings they're going to be a little bit more expensive I would budget for around 30
10:34
euros for an evening meal and that's maybe to get some tapas and a few drinks as well but I'm just
10:41
down that by Plata Santa Eulalia and I can see as well that they do a menu del dia for 10 euros so
10:47
So these €10 menu del dia still exist. Whether this happens in the summit, who can say
10:53
Let's just take a quick look at the menu here. So you've got a great choice of dishes here
10:57
You get either chiperones, which are little fried squids. You can get a soup, a quiche, a fruto mallocchi, ensalada
11:05
And that's just for starters. You can get chicken, a burger, croquetas as well for the second course
11:12
Look at that, €10 and a drink. Absolute bargain. okay so I just stopped off in Lidl on the way home it is my current favorite supermarket here in
11:42
Mallorca because it is a lot cheaper than any of the others now I've got more information about
11:47
shopping in Mallorca coming up on my channel so make sure you hit that subscribe button
11:51
I'll show you how much stuff costs and how prices have gone up this year
11:56
now in 2022 at the beginning of 2022 the average price of my weekly food shop was around 70 euros
12:05
and that was for the two of us but this year it's definitely gone up and i am spending about 100
12:10
euros a week for myself and my daughter so you can kind of calculate how much you can expect to spend
12:17
if you're a much larger family okay so i'm back in cala mior i've just parked my car it's the end
12:24
of the day and I'm back at the beach so let's talk about the final things about the cost of living
12:29
here in Mallorca. So schools are out at the moment I can see there are a few kids down here on the
12:35
beach for the sunset it's actually quite busy down here in Calamior but what about schools and have
12:41
the prices of those gone up over the past year? Well I can say that a lot of the information if
12:47
you go back and look at the video from 2022 for the cost of living you're going to find out all
12:52
about the schools here in Mallorca but the biggest cost difference I have found is in the
12:57
international schools. Now you're going to pay around 10,000 euros for the year for one child
13:03
depending on the age of your child but I have noticed that costs have gone up between 2022 and
13:10
2023. In many of the schools you're going to find those fees have risen by at least a thousand euros
13:17
Goodness knows what they're going to be come September this year. Okay, so what else do you need to know about the cost of living here
13:26
Well, the health care is another really big issue. The health care in Spain is excellent
13:32
If you do pay into the social security system, it is free. You just have to pay for your medicines at the pharmacy if you're getting a prescription
13:39
However, in many cases, if you're coming out here in one of the visas, then you are going to have to get private medical insurance
13:46
Now, again, costs for these do vary, so you're going to have to shop around
13:50
you're going to look at paying from between around 65 to 70 euros even up to 100 euros as well and
13:56
that depends on your age and if you have any pre-existing medical conditions too. Okay so just
14:03
to summarize if you are a single person coming over here to Mallorca then I would budget around
14:08
seven to eight hundred euros per month to live on and that is without rent. If you are coming over
14:15
is a family say a family of four then maybe budget around three to three and a half thousand euros
14:20
for a month and also make that without rent as well it is pricey to live here it's not a cheap
14:27
place to live in Spain I have to say there are other places that are a lot cheaper to live
14:32
in the country but of course Mallorca is so desirable who wouldn't want to live here
14:37
okay everyone so the sun is just about going down here on another day over here in Mallorca
14:45
down on Calamillo Beach now if you want to find out more about the cost of living here on the
14:50
island please head on over to my website on mallorcaunderthesun.com I've got loads more
14:56
information in that website article as well stuff like I haven't also covered in this video if you
