Welcome back to my channel Mallorca Under the Sun. It is September 2021 and I'm going to be
0:05
telling you why this is the perfect time to come and visit Calador on the southeast of Mallorca
0:12
Now I am starting my guide to Calador on the main beach which is Cala Gran and I'm going to give you
0:34
an idea of what it is like down here and show you how close the beach is to the town centre and then
0:41
And I'm going to show you some of the other key coves in the area too. And take a look at what Calador Town and Marina is like at night
0:50
So we're down here in Calagran. And as you can see, it's a huge bay stretching right out into the Mediterranean Sea
0:58
But as you come in, the water turns this absolutely gorgeous turquoise blue right up to the little beach
1:06
Now, the beaches up here in Calador are quite small. and so you can expect in July and August they're going to be absolutely packed and busy and this is
1:17
the very reason I recommend coming out here in the quieter months in the spring and in the autumn
1:23
so Calagran is more than just a beach you have these walkways that follow the rocks all the way
1:31
around the sides of this cove as well so if you want to escape the sand there are plenty of other
1:36
places where you can sit and also swim in this area. Okay so let's head back to
1:42
the beach and see what there is to see and do in the resort. So as you can see
1:48
I'm down here in almost late September and you can see that the beach down here
1:53
is still quite busy so you know that if you are looking to book down here in
1:57
Calador that the resort is anything but dead as we go through the autumn
2:06
And you can see as well we're coming up to some restaurants
2:21
So the beach is lined with restaurants and places where you can grab a drink or a snack
2:27
or get some lunch. and the sunbeds and zecher stretch right to the back of the beach
2:46
Okay so we're going to leave Calagran Beach and I'm going to show you exactly
2:50
how far we are from the resort centre so come on let's go. Just heading up the
2:55
pathway here of Calagran Beach and we're going to take a left
3:06
Bye music music music music music music music music music
3:22
Okay so as you can see the resort centre is only just about
3:26
200-250 metres from Kalla ground the main beach here in Kalla so if you are looking at hotels in this area you can kind of navigate where
3:37
roughly the beach will be and where all the entertainment will be as well. Now
3:42
right behind me in the square you can see there's a tourist information office
3:46
it is currently empty at the moment and the door is shut but there's some
3:51
information on the boards to help navigate yourself and also a QR code on
3:55
the door as well if you're needing a map of the area
3:59
So obviously this is daytime and everyone is on the beach at the moment and enjoying the coastline
4:07
But in the evening it's a whole different story down here and all these restaurants get really packed out and the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic
4:17
As you can see in the footage that I took a few weeks ago this summer
4:22
So just coming up to possibly the most busy place in Calador and I can see Jimmy's bar to my left
4:29
coming up here is La Bodega Restaurant. I think it's super popular here because
4:35
it's so busy. I'm guessing they do some really nice Spanish tapas
4:42
Let's go and find the menu. So they do some great tapas dishes here and they start from around 3 euros
4:52
I mean this has to be the place to come and have dinner one night in Calador
5:03
It's by far the busiest place I've seen and there's even queues of people waiting to get in
5:22
absolutely more packed down here in calador than i've seen anywhere else on the island this summer
5:35
the whole this whole pedestrianized area is just full of people all the bars
5:41
and restaurants have queues of people waiting to get in So the centre of Calador won't be quite as busy going into autumn, but this is just to
5:56
give you an idea of the nightlife down here. Okay, so let's go and check out some of the other beaches up here around Calador
6:10
Okay so we just come a kilometer along the coast here from Cala Gran over to Cala Esmeralda and this is a lovely spot now as you can see in the distance you can see the starfish glass
6:25
bottom boat just pulling out and this is the excursion that we went on and I'll
6:30
link to that excursion at the end of the video to go and see the dolphins out in
6:35
the bay Now Cala Esmeralda is an absolute gem of a beach out here in Calador. As you can
6:47
see it's also quite busy in September but there aren't any beach bullies for
6:53
rent down here so it does allow more people to actually get down to the beach
6:57
as well and also to be a little bit more spaced out too. But it is pure tourism
7:04
around here in Cala Esmeralda. The whole little cove is just lined with hotels where you can come
7:12
and stay and just be steps away from the beach. And the Cala Esmeralda hotel too has a restaurant
7:23
down here on the beach which anyone can come along to and eat to and main courses, let me just take a
7:31
quick look at the price, it's a little bit more expensive. You can get club sandwiches I think for about eight euros, meat dishes for about 15. Okay so next
7:41
stop is Cala Ferrera. Okay, so coming down to Cala Ferreira, you can see it's also a very long beach too, with
8:12
volleyball nets right at the end. But you can come down here and you can rent your sunbeds and your parasols
8:19
And the actual beach itself is quite narrow. But the water, just along with all the other beaches down here in Calador, is just some
8:30
the bluest you'll see here on the islands it's just stunning and it's just beautiful
8:42
interestingly enough as well there are a couple little caves down here i've spotted
8:46
in the rocks down by the side of califerara but as with the other beaches as well you can come down here and hire paddle boards
8:57
You can rent a pedalo as well. Okay, so I've just been told as well that the cost of two sunbeds and one umbrella is €14 all day
9:08
And after three o'clock in the afternoon, it goes down to €8.50. So So in our final stop today we are down in Kala Egos
9:43
But before I tell you about what this is like in Kala Egos, I drove past the marina
9:48
which is an amazing area if you want to moor your yacht or you want to charter a boat
9:53
and we took a walk down there this summer so I will show you what it is like at night with the
9:59
following footage. Calador Marina is just the perfect place to go for an evening stroll
10:04
and is beautifully lit by the restaurants so come down here for a cocktail and eat from a
10:10
massive selection of restaurants. There are also a number of boats as well that you can come down
10:15
here and charter during the day to explore the coastline. Now back to Kala Agos
10:25
So as you can see this is another really gorgeous tiny Kala and again much better
10:31
visited in the autumn months and in the spring months than during high summer because as you can
10:36
see this one is probably the least busy of them all and there's plenty of room on the sand down here
10:42
Now in terms of where to stay down here in Calador, there are so many all-inclusive hotels
10:51
in the resort that you will not struggle to find a place to stay but as I've said before the season
10:56
does end on the 31st of October and it normally starts up again in the 1st of May. Now maybe next
11:03
year things may open up a little bit sooner but just keep an eye on those hotels to check opening
11:08
times. Now we did come and stay down in a four-star hotel in Calaegos and it was
11:16
fine for one of those a flop and drop holidays where you just want to lie by
11:20
the pool and do absolutely nothing and you even have all your meals catered for
11:25
as well but I have to say that in many of these hotels that they are fine really
11:29
for what they are but if you want to experience real Mallorcan food and real
11:34
island food and get out and get into the restaurants and you'll notice the difference in quality. Okay so there are loads of other things that you can come
11:45
and do down here in Calador. I know there's a golf course nearby, you can do
11:50
some sightseeing as well, there's an old 18th century fort as well which you can
11:53
walk up to and also there are so many other Calas as well that you can explore
11:57
like Cala Mondrago which you can get to on the dolphin boat or also just by
12:02
popping over there by grabbing a taxi or getting a hire car. You are also just
12:07
45 minutes away from the caves of Hams and the caves of Drac and the resort of
12:12
Porto Cristo and just literally a few kilometres away from Porto Pedro too
12:16
which is another fantastic little fishing port to go and check out and
12:20
maybe have lunch or dinner. Okay so thanks very much for joining me on my
12:26
tour around Calador and if you want to check out the number one excursion stick
12:31
around because you can click on it just here
