Walk with Me - An EASY HIKE in SOLLER, Mallorca

In this video, walk with me on an easy hike in Soller, Mallorca. We leave behind Soller town and take to the hills to enjoy some spectacular views. With the historic Ferrocarril wooden train rumbling past, we enjoy the sights and smells of lemon groves, orange orchards, and the olive trees which line the pathways en route to Deia. I'll show you the interesting places we pass in our hunt for a cup of tea. But do we find it? So Mallorca hiking is back and I'm over here in Sawyer to show you a really

lovely hiking route which you can do if you're over here out of season on holiday

So to show you the start of the route here you can see I parked on the entrance

roads coming into Sawyer. Right across from the Repsol petrol station you're

going to see a park, you're going to see a sign to Dea

Now you can see the railway line behind me so if you time it right you can come

here and watch the train come by. And what fantastic timing here comes the

Ferrocarril from Palma. Okay so the trains just gone by we're going to continue up the path here and

we're going to head on into the hills. Now I have to say I'm hot already we've just left for the walk we're probably

about 15 minutes into it so this weather is just perfect for hiking and it's

really important if you are coming over here to go hiking in Mallorca that you

do wear layers as well so lots of layers that you can just peel off as you go

along and I've actually got a t-shirt on underneath this so I'm wondering whether

we'll get down to the t-shirt further on in the walk. Now as I am recording this

I'm very conscious I need to keep up with the party in front of me and so I'm

gonna get going. The pathway here has turned very rocky too so of course I do

recommend bringing some good hiking boots. Don't come up here in flip-flops

that's all I can say. You do need some proper footwear here to come hiking over

here in Mallorca. Even trainers will be a bit slippery so make sure you've got

adequate footwear if you're coming over here hiking. I'm going to keep going

back and having a look at the views here but you can see Sawyer town in all

its glory just up from this hill. It's actually just even worth coming up this

path here 15-20 minutes out of town just to enjoy these lovely views. Let's keep

going. So we're just coming up this path here and look we're crossing the railway

as well the Ferrocarril track. The train that we saw earlier just came down this

track earlier, went through the tunnel, went right the way round and passed us on the

way down. And here we come up to another amazing lookout point which looks all

the way over the Sawyer Valley. And here comes the train again

know that the trains over here run quite infrequently over the winter so if you

So you know that point where you think you can't get any better views of Sawyer

town than you did a few minutes before? Well I have and check this out. Look at

this we're right above the town here. So lovely up here, so quiet and peaceful too

You're not going to find the tourist hordes up in the hillside over here in

Sawyer at all today. Also we're just turning the camera around here just

looking back at Port de Sawyer. In the distance you can see that big white building right on the corner. That's the Jamara Beach Hotel. Check out my video

text below this video. So as you can see with the train track that we keep seeing

as we're coming up the mountains here the train line actually winds its way around the mountainside here and heads on back down into the Sawyer Valley and

eventually into the Sawyer train station. The path is getting a lot steeper here

and because the Sun hasn't actually hit the path either we're finding that the

stones here are quite slippery as well which is why you have to be wearing

hiking boots over here. You don't have a tumble up here, it's quite remote, it's

quite out of the way and we haven't actually seen any other hikers out here

yet today. And this is the importance of wearing layers when you're coming out

hiking because I'm in my t-shirt already, I'm absolutely boiling. But you can see

that the scenery now, we're coming into the shade here and we're coming up the side of the mountain, it's changing slightly because the purpose of this

trip as well is to hike to go and get a cup of tea in a really lovely location

and we're heading towards a luxury retreat called Cass Jork. On Google Maps

it does say it's open, fingers crossed it is because I haven't actually had a

coffee today either and I've only had the one tea. That's not enough to power

me up the hill so hopefully very soon we're going to be arriving at the Cass

Jork Hotel. I'm way off in the distance here, look you can see Port de Sawyer is

coming into view and you can just see the streams of smoke here from the

wood fires coming up through the Sawyer Valley over these lovely winter months

Okay so we're just coming up to a signpost here, you can see the direction

we're heading and we can head all the way today and it'll take another two and a half hours. I've done that route many times actually over the years and you

can see actually we've come up on this route here on the Camille de Roquefort, we've

just come up this pathway here. It says it's 25 minutes but we did stop and I've

been filming so it's probably taken us the best part of 45 minutes. There's also

another route as well down past there's a Camille de Castell and that's 45

minutes along this route here so probably another nice route to take but we're going to keep on heading on in the direction to Deya

So the coats gone back on again and we've been walking in the shade now for

about 15 minutes but we've got to an area of the walk where we've leveled off

it's quite flat so we're walking along a hillside here it's again absolutely

gorgeous and we're coming back into the sunshine so I think this coats probably going to come off again in a few minutes time

So we're just coming up to what looks like a really lovely house here and another

sign. Now if you do just want to do a much shorter walk here that you can head

on back towards Sawyer down this path but we're going to continue along in the

direction of Deya though we're not actually going to Deya as I said before we're actually gonna do a circular route down to Sawyer but we're gonna go a

bit further around. So as we're coming along here as you can see the gateway it

looks like we're entering a private property but we're not. Look you can see

an arrow which indicates where the path is I can see another arrow straight

ahead too. It's almost like we're coming through this little village area through

here it's absolutely lovely but we're heading on that around towards the

pathway. Check this out look we're just coming around past Cam Droney Gross

It's being renovated it's open I'm just taking a peek inside there's nobody

around. I don't know what they're renovating here but the views across the

Sawyer Valley are going to be absolutely beautiful. This route here is getting rather flat it's it's much more easy walking from

here on in. So the hardest thing about the walk was just in the beginning 20

minutes coming up that really sharp steep hill. Just coming up past some

amazing properties along this little path here. Imagine living up here imagine nipping out to the supermarket I think you'd be gone for quite a while

Just bearing in mind here we're right at the top of the hillside here in the

Sawyer Valley. It's very beautiful but it's very remote too. And this is

actually where we were going to stop for a cup of tea. We're outside the Cass Jork

It's a luxury retreat and on Google it says that it's open but unfortunately

it's not as closed for the season. Look there's a sign here Dear Guests we'd

March. And just look at the views that you get from over here as well. Absolutely amazing. You've got the port to Sawyer right in front of me here. And here's

the Cass Jork Gardens. I mean how absolutely gorgeous. What an absolutely

beautiful spot. If you're looking for somewhere very special to stay over here

in the mountains or over here in Sawyer, well this could be for you

Passing more olive trees here. Look how pretty this is. Absolutely beautiful. I just wish I

could pick some to take home with me. Okay so check this out. I've got something I absolutely love about the Sawyer Valley

and that's the orange trees that are just absolutely everywhere around here. As you can see this little orange or clementine tree. And look technically it's

hanging over the wall but it's not ripe actually. I'm gonna leave that. Well I

would leave it anyway. I don't know whether it's called stealing over here but we used to scrump for fruit when we were growing up in Dorset. Do they do it

here in Mallorca? Maybe they do. I'm not sure. There's a little chapel just around here

too and I'm gonna head on that down the path to go and check that out. It's just down the road here from the Cas Jorg

Just coming up past one of the olive producers over here in Mallorca, the

Can Jouvert. It was just surrounded by olive trees. Just past the little orange

grove that we've just passed here too. So just coming into view here you can see

the Hotel Corathon right in front of me. This is on the road here from

Sawyerr to Deyr. If you have driven that route you will have seen it. I have a feeling

we might go and check it out. I'm not quite sure where Jose's leading us. I know there's a little chapel up this road as well before we head on back down

towards Sawyerr. And we've just seen our first hikers today. It's been very quiet up here

Currently we're in between the public to public holidays so I was expecting to

see more people out walking. I just haven't seen them at all

can't believe. There's a sign here saying there's a Salon de Thé. Look, selling tea

and cakes two minutes up this path here. On the basis that we missed out on tea

in the luxury retreat we're going to go and see if this is open. I need my tea

And we are coming out onto the front of this amazing building here. Everything in

this building does look closed but you can see they've got some Christmas decorations up. Oh it's Can Pro Hom. I'm not sure what Can Pro Hom is but again

somewhere with some amazing views. It's just following the signs here. We can't

see any tea room open. It looks closed. It is closed. I can't believe it. Am I

going to find a cup of tea today? Got some seating over here too. I think this

where we're going to have lunch today and you can just see the road down here. This is the road that runs up to Deya. This is what we're going to look out onto

to have a bite to eat here and I have to say while we do live in Mallorca you

may think that every meal time is all about jamon serrano or the lovely

chorizos that we get over here or even the fouette too but what have I got my

sandwich today? I do have a cheese and Branson pickle. Now you can get the

Branson pickle from the English supermarket. Best thing for me coming out

on a hike you really want to eat something like that. I'm not really keen on the old jamons. We've got loads of food here so I'm going to share it around

Okay that's it so we've had lunch we're going to head on down towards Solier

So we're back near where the Cas Jorch is and we're going to take a right down this road here

towards Solier. Now it's not actually marked, well it is marked but it's very

hard to spot. I'm just going to show you the sign to look out for here. You can

just see that says Solier and this is the direction we're going to go in

So this walk has been absolutely amazing today. We've had the perfect weather

we've had lovely blue skies, the temperature has been fantastic although it's starting to get a little bit cold now. I didn't get my cup of tea. We're

going to head on down into Solier now to go and see if anywhere's open. If not

we're going to head down to Port de Solier as well because I kind of fancy an ice cream too so we're going to see if there any ice cream shops open too. Okay
